Activist to be honored at The House Cafe

An event to honor author, activist and feminist Eve Ensler and her global strike to end violence against women, “One Billion Rising,” has been planned for 7 p.m. Thursday, at the House Café, 263 E. Lincoln Highway, DeKalb.

The event also will honor peace, love and local music in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook shootings and remembrance of the massacre that occurred at Northern Illinois University on Feb. 14, 2008. The event is designed to demonstrate the community’s refusal to accept violence against any and all people.

The evening will include music provided by a national band as well as local and regional bands. Artwork by NIU and local artists also will be on exhibit during the evening. This event gives attendees an opportunity to celebrate Valentine’s Day without the pressure of over-consumerism and materialism.
