Money available for
senior support groups

SYCAMORE – DeKalb County officials are seeking bids from agencies that would like to use senior tax levy funds.

The annual senior property tax levy, which voters approved in 1997, generates about $450,000 for programs that keep senior citizens from being institutionalized prematurely, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Community Services Department.

Most recently, the funds were awarded to eleven agencies: Barb City Manor, Ben Gordon Center, DeKalb County Health Department, DeKalb County Hospice, Elder Care Services, Family Service Agency, Fox Valley Older Adult Services, Hope Haven, Opportunity House, Prairie State Legal Services and Voluntary Action Center.
