History is something that people tend to think of as 100-plus years ago. It is not. We are making history every day.

The DeKalb County Genealogical and Historical Society has worked to document the past 50 years in DeKalb County history in its new book, “Acres of Change: A History of DeKalb County, Illinois 1963-2012.” Enjoy a sneak preview of the topics covered in the book and the stories it includes at the Sycamore History Museum’s Brown Bag Lunch at noon on Thursday.

The lead speaker will be the book committee chair, Terry Martin, retired Kishwaukee College faculty member and a 50-year resident of Afton Township. He and his wife, Sherrie, also are the authors of the education chapter in the new book. Assisting him will be Barry Schrader, a member of the history museum and another co-author of the book.
