Larson wins farming award
Shabbona farmer Ann Larson received a STIHL Inc.-sponsored Discussion Meet Award from the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Awards at the 94th American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting in Nashville, Tenn.
“Young farmers and ranchers face numerous challenges,” Roger Phelps, promotional communications manager for STIHL Inc., said in a news release. “From the cost of acquisition and ownership, to environmental and regulatory challenges, America’s farmers and ranchers need to be more knowledgeable and sophisticated than ever. The American Farm Bureau YF&R program is developing the next generation of leaders and STIHL is proud to be a part of it.”
The Discussion Meet, which recognizes farmers between the ages of 18 and 35 who demonstrate knowledge of and achievement in agriculture and commitment to promoting the agriculture industry, simulates a committee meeting in which active discussion and participation are expected. Participants are evaluated on their ability to exchange ideas and information on a predetermined topic. For her achievement, Larson received cash and STIHL product worth $3,000.
