The GED Testing Center at Kishwaukee College will hold Illinois High School Equivalency Certificate testing opportunities this spring. GED practice tests are available at the DeKalb, Rochelle and Sycamore public libraries. The GED consists of five testing areas: writing, social studies, science, mathematics and reading. In Illinois, the Constitution test must be passed to receive the Illinois High School Equivalency Certificate.
The current version of the GED Test, which has been used since 2002, will be retired at the end of 2013. Beginning in January 2014, a new test and test format will be used. Any student who has not completed all five subject tests that comprise the GED exam before the end of the year will have to re-register for the exam and take all the individual tests again in 2014. Students who have begun taking the GED tests are strongly encouraged to complete the entire test before December.
GED testing will take place at Kishwaukee College in Room A-200 on the following Wednesdays in the morning: Feb. 6, 13 and 20; March 6, 13 and 20; April 3, 10, 17 and 24; and May 1 and 8. In addition, there will be evening test times: March 21 (writing test at 5 p.m. and Constitution test at 7:30 p.m.); March 26 (social studies at 5 p.m. and science at 6:40 p.m.) and on April 2 (math at 5 p.m. and reading at 7 p.m.). Examinees must be checked in 15 minutes before testing begins. Doors will be closed once testing begins.
Any Kishwaukee College student or DeKalb County resident interested in taking the GED in English or Spanish must bring a government-issued ID with a current address to the DeKalb County Regional Office of Education, 2500 Annie Glidden Road, Suite C, in DeKalb, and pay a $50 registration fee in a check, cash, or money order (no credit cards accepted). The GED is available to anyone who meets the following requirements:
• 17 years of age or older
• Is not a high school graduate or a GED graduate
• Has maintained residence in the state of Illinois for 30 days
Anyone with a documented disability who may need GED testing accommodations, such as a private room, additional testing time, or the test on tape, should contact Kate Storey at the KC GED Testing Center, 815-825-2086, ext. 3190. The student’s disability assessment report will be reviewed and if updated testing is necessary, the student will be referred to an appropriate agency who will charge a fee. There are strict federal guidelines as to what constitutes appropriate disability assessment testing and documentation. Once all the necessary documentation has been received, a request form for GED testing accommodations will be completed and submitted to the Illinois Director of GED Testing for approval. The entire process can take two to three months.

Registered GED examinees must call the KC GED Testing Center at 815-825-2086, ext. 3111, to make a test reservation; seating for each test date is limited.
