MLK church service planned for Monday

DeKALB – Local congregations will celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. holiday Monday with a special community service.

The 2013 Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration starts at 7 p.m. Monday at the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 1201 Twombly Road, DeKalb.

The annual event is being co-hosted by the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church and the First Congregational Church. This year's theme is "The Beloved Community: Faces That Inspire – Martin Luther King, Jr., John Perkins, and Clarence Jordan," said organizer Beth Campen. The beloved community was a term King and others used to describe a nonviolent society that would not tolerate poverty, hunger or homelessness.
