Bail set at $100,000 in Sandwich rape case
SYCAMORE – A 23-year-old Aurora man accused of raping a Sugar Grove woman last year was in DeKalb County Jail on Wednesday.
Timothy L. Shafer, of the 500 block of Benton Street in Aurora, was charged with eight counts of criminal sexual assault for allegedly forcing himself on a woman in Sandwich on Aug. 5, court records show. The charges are Class 1 felonies, which typically are punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
His bail was set at $100,000 on Wednesday, when he also was appointed a public defender. He is next due in court Jan. 31.
