Hinckley-Big Rock girls basketball defeated Paw Paw, 40-23, in the quarterfinals of the Little Ten Conference tournament Monday at Serena.
Only up by seven points at halftime, the No. 3-seeded Royals’ defense clamped down and H-BR advanced to a semifinal matchup against No. 2 Serena at 7 p.m. Thurday.
Serena downs Hiawatha: No. 2 Serena got out to an early lead over No. 7 Hiawatha in the quarterfinals of the girls basketball LTC tournament and never looked back in a 45-21 win over the Hawks.
Hiawatha was down, 23-10, at halftime, but Serena stretched its lead to 21 by the end of the third quarter.
The Hawks will play No. 6 Paw Paw in the consolation bracket at 7 p.m. Thursday at Indian Creek.
WRESTLING
G-K loses in triangular: Genoa-Kingston lost to Rockford Jefferson (41-36) and Mooseheart (39-36).
“We’re still suffering from numbers, giving up four or five weight classes. It’s tough,” G-K coach Earl Jursich said. “It’s tough to be a sophomore and wrestling kids who are juniors and seniors.”
Joe Murray recorded two early pins in each of his matches at 145 pounds. Nick Cotham had a pin against Mooseheart.
