Daniel Hein won the 100 backstroke, setting a school record in the process, for the DeKalb-Sycamore co-op swim team in Saturday's invite at Rockford Jefferson. Hein had a time of 53.06, and also took third in the 100 butterfly.
However, the co-op finished second to Cary-Grove. The Trojans finished with 321 points while DeKalb-Sycamore had just 315.
The co-op went into the last relay with the lead, but couldn't hold on.
"Overall I was just really proud of the guys' effort," DeKalb-Sycamore coach Leah Eames said. "They knew it was going to be extremely difficult to get the win today, but they didn't give up until the end."
Ryan Schultz took second in the 100 IM and third in the 100 breaststroke for DeKalb-Sycamore, while Marc Dubrick was second in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 freestyle. Jacob Bjork had a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke.
Spartans top Dixon: Lauren Goff had seven points for Sycamore in a 27-21 victory at Dixon. Baylee Foresman added six points and seven rebounds for the Spartans, while Bailey Gilbert finished with three steals for Sycamore (8-7).
Cogs fall: Byron beat Genoa-Kingston, 57-27. Courtney Winters had eight points for the Cogs while Brea Foley finished with seven.
G-K is now 2-17.
"We did not bring enough effort, intensity, discipline that we have over the last couple games where we played well," Cogs coach Kyle Henkel said. "We played a very good team today. You put those two things together and it's not going to turn out well for us."
Knights lose crossover: Ottawa took down Kaneland, 50-30, in a Northern Illinois Big 12 crossover game. The Knights are now 11-7.
Ashley Prost led Kaneland with 10 points, while Vanessa Gould finished with five.
H-BR wins in OT: Hinckley-Big Rock beat Newark, 60-55, in overtime behind 20 points and seven rebounds from Jared Madden. Michael Bayler added 15 points for the Royals
