Six candidates linked to Bears' job

The list of candidates for the Bears' head coaching vacancy has climbed to at least six.

The latest name to be linked to the job is Pete Carmichael, who is in his fourth season as the offensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints. Carmichael, 41, interviewed with the Bears on Wednesday, according to a report by Pro Football Talk.

Like several other candidates for the Bears' job opening, Carmichael has plenty of hands-on experience working with quarterbacks. He has worked with Drew Brees for the past seven seasons as offensive coordinator from 2009-12 and quarterbacks coach from 2006-08.

Before joining the Saints, Carmichael had brief coaching stints with the San Diego Chargers, Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns. He also has experience as an assistant coach in the college ranks with Louisiana Tech and New Hampshire.

Other candidates who have been linked to the Bears include Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Tom Clements, Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan, Atlanta Falcons special-teams coach Keith Armstrong and Dallas Cowboys special-teams coach Joe DeCamillis.

That list likely will increase in the coming days as general manager Phil Emery broadens his search for Lovie Smith's replacement.
