PREP ROUNDUP: DeKalb's Hein takes first at Boylan swim invitational

The DeKalb-Sycamore boys swimming co-op team placed several athletes in the top 6 at the Boylan Invitational.

Different from most swim meets, the Boylan Invitational is scored on an individual basis as all swimmers compete in four of five events and are then ranked against only competitors in their grade level.

"Overall it was a great meet," co-op coach Leah Eames said. "The kids have a chance to swim all the strokes at once, which sometimes they don’t get a chance to do. It’s a fun meet for the guys."

Daniel Hein took first at the freshman level while Jacob Bjork was second and Holden Mackey was sixth.

Dylan Powers was third at the sophomore level and Michael Carlson was sixth.Ryan Schultz finished second at the junior level.

BOYS BASKETBALL

H-BR finishes fifth: Hinckley-Big Rock took fifth place with an emphatic 53-36 victory over Seneca.

Jared Madden shot 9-for-13 from the field and finished with 22 points to lead the Royals.

Zach Michels had 10 points in the win.

BOYS BOWLING

DeKalb takes first: The Barbs finished with a total of 5,936 pins, defeating Plainfield North and Plainfield East.

DeKalb was led by Will Todtz with a six-game total of 1,264 and took first place individually. He had a high game of 241. Seth Pinne was second with a total of 1,256 and a high game of 245.

Sean Zarek had a 1,198 series and a single-game high of 263, good for the second-best game in the invitational.

DeKalb will be at the LaSalle Peru conference meet on Thursday.
