Students want to break ball of tape record

AURORA – Middle schools students in the far Chicago suburb of Aurora are trying to break a record by creating the world’s largest ball of tape.

The (Aurora) Beacon-News reported that some students at Cowherd Middle School began their attempt in October.

They asked for masking tape donations through letters and advertising.

The newspaper reports that donations have come from several states including New York and Vermont.

The ball has grown to around 300 pounds and is being stored at Culture Stock bookstore in Aurora. The students have at least 1,700 more pounds to go before breaking a record.

Teacher Matt Harding says students are keeping track of donations with a map.
