PREP ROUNDUP: Sycamore wrestling wins Badger Invitational

Sycamore won the team championship at the Badger State Invitational in Madison, Wisc. on Saturday.

Kyle Akins, Austin Culton and Jake Davis all took first place individually. Martin Malone took second while Bruce Hansen, Jesus Renteria, Austin Armstrong and Tyler Barton all took fourth place for the Spartans.

Kaneland downs Woodstock: The Knights defeated Woodstock, 52-18, in a dual meet on Saturday.

Kaneland won 10 of 13 matches. Kaneland's Stephen Gust (113 pounds) won by pin while Esai Ponce (132) won by technical fall. Sonny Horn (138) won by decision while both Dan Goress (145) and Austin Parks (152) won by major decision.


Pontiac upends Kaneland: The Knights (9-4) fell to Pontiac, 43-39, on Saturday to take sixth place at the Ottawa Christmas Classic.

Ashley Prost led Kaneland with 10 points while Allyson O'Herron and Marina Schaeffer each had nine points and five rebounds. Emma Bradford led the Knights with eight rebounds.


Sycamore finishes as runner-up: The Spartans took second place in the Crest Hill Steelman tournament on Saturday. Senior Kayla Webb led Sycamore with a 1,174 series and high game of 264, which placed first in the tournament. Dani Pivonka took third with a 1,130 series.



Barbs edged in OT: DeKalb fell to Wheaton-Warrenville South in overtime, 39-32, on Friday. The Barbs came back from a five-point deficit in the fourth quarter, but failed to score in the overtime period.

Courtney Patrick had 14 points while Brittney Patrick had five points and four assists. Madelyne Johnson chipped in five points and six rebounds.

Rachel Torres, Johnson and Brittney Patrick were all named to the Naperville North / Benet All-Tournament team.
