CHICAGO – Cook County authorities say they arrested more than 100 people they said were ripping off stores at several Chicago-area shopping malls.

In a news release, State's Attorney Anita Alvarez announced the results of what was dubbed "Operation Whoville," a reference to the Dr. Seuss story "How The Grinch Stole Christmas."

Alvarez says undercover sting operations conducted by various law enforcement agencies over the past month resulted in 108 arrests.

The operation focused on individuals as well as organized retail theft crews that steal from retailers, sell them to "fencing" operations that in turn sell them again.
