Published: Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 5:30 a.m. CDT

Hiawatha won its second game in a row with a tight 32-31 victory over Christian Liberty on Monday.

Ashley Tamraz scored 11 points and hit crucial free throws down the stretch to help the Hawks to a win at home.

"It was a great win. Our defense has really turned it up," Hiawatha coach Franz Schumacher said. "They have some really good three-point shooters and our defense really held them down."

Dani Clark had eight points and Alana Sterling chipped in with seven points for Hiawatha (6-7). It was the first loss for Christian Liberty on the season.

"We're finally getting over our illnesses and getting everybody back to 100 percent," Schumacher said. "We're feeling pretty confident right now."

G-K falls in overtime: The Cogs string of tough losses continued in a 52-48 overtime defeat to Rockford Christian Life at home.

Andrea Strohmaier led Genoa-Kingston (2-12) with 15 points.

"We let up a lead at the end of the fourth and when it came down to it they made the extra plays," G-K coach Kyle Henkel said. "We fought hard and it came down to a few plays."

Bria Foley added nine and Danielle Engel chipped in seven points in the loss.

G-K plays at Somonauk on Thursday.
