Shaw Media names Rung chief operating officer

John Rung, senior vice president at Shaw Media, has been named the company’s chief operating officer, effective Jan. 1.

Shaw Media owns and operates the Daily Chronicle.

Rung, 50, also is publisher of the Shaw Media’s Northwest Herald in Crystal Lake. He has been with the company for 16 years in a number of positions.

As COO, Rung will be responsible for the company’s operating activities, including revenue growth, strategic development, and financial goal management, Tom Shaw, president and CEO of Shaw Media, said in a news release.

”I am honored that Tom Shaw and our board of directors have entrusted me with this responsibility,” Rung said in the release. “The success we have experienced is a direct reflection of the talented and engaged people on our team. I look forward to working with them to continue Shaw Media’s outstanding legacy in the communities we serve.”

Rung resides in Johnsburg with his wife and three children.

Shaw Media, founded in 1851, publishes more than 80 print and online titles in Illinois and Iowa.
