Morgan Dirienzo of Sycamore is the recipient of the Academic Scholarship for Freshmen at Southern Illinois University Carbondale for the fall 2013 semester. Scholarships are based on academic merit and potential for superior achievement in college.

Dirienzo, who will graduate in May 2013 from Sycamore High School, is the daughter of Lynne and David Dirienzo of Sycamore. Her honors and activities include being a member of “Women in Aviation” and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. She is working to earn her private pilots’ certificate, and participates in an aviation program at Kishwaukee College in Malta.

Dirienzo plans to study aviation flight at SIU Carbondale.
