BOYS SWIMMING

Co-op gets close win: The DeKalb-Sycamore co-op beat Oswego, 90.5-88.5. DeKalb-Sycamore got the victory despite having no points from the diving competition.

“The guys fought all the way. Oswego was one of the teams we actually lost to last year, twice,” DeKalb-Sycamore coach Leah Eames said. “They returned almost their entire team. ... We came out with a win this year.”

Daniel Hein won the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke, and both times were career-bests and under the state-qualifying marks.

Marc Dubrick won the 500 freestyle for DeKalb-Sycamore, and Ryan Schultz was a winner in the 100 breaststroke. The co-op’s 200 medley relay team of Dylan Powers, Josh Page, Hein and Ryan Schultz got a win as well.

“Our depth really got us through the meet. The seconds, thirds and fourths that we picked up,” Eames said. “We really had to work for every single point we got.”
