The Kaneland boys basketball team gave Hinckley-Big Rock its second loss of the season, defeating the Royals, 44-42.
Matt Limbrunner led the Knights with 14 points. John Pruett had 12 while Tyler Carlson added 10.
Bernie Conley led the Royals with 17 points, and Michael Bayler finished with 14 for H-BR.
The Knights are now 2-4 on the season while the Royals fall to 6-2.
Sycamore loses NI Big 12 East game: Bailey Gilbert had 14 points for Sycamore in a 53-41 loss to Yorkville. Paige Wogen had nine points for the Spartans, and Katherine Kohler finished with six.
Cogs fall: Dakota topped Genoa-Kingston, 45-23, at the Pecatonica Tournament. Andrea Strohmaier led the Cogs with 10 points. Bria Foley finished with six points for G-K.
The Cogs are now 2-9.
Co-op gets close win: The DeKalb-Sycamore co-op beat Oswego, 90.5-88.5. DeKalb-Sycamore got the victory despite having no points from the diving competition.
“The guys fought all the way. Oswego was one of the teams we actually lost to last year, twice,” DeKalb-Sycamore coach Leah Eames said. “They returned almost their entire team. ... We came out with a win this year.”
Daniel Hein won the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke, and both times were career-bests and under the state-qualifying marks.
Marc Dubrick won the 500 freestyle for DeKalb-Sycamore, and Ryan Schultz was a winner in the 100 breaststroke. The co-op’s 200 medley relay team of Dylan Powers, Josh Page, Hein and Ryan Schultz got a win as well.
“Our depth really got us through the meet. The seconds, thirds and fourths that we picked up,” Eames said. “We really had to work for every single point we got.”
Barbs get win: DeKalb beat Dixon, 3,509-3,460, behind a 643 series from Seth Pinne. Robert Olson had a 607 series for DeKalb.
“Our scores are starting to go up and we are becoming more consistent with our scoring and spares,” DeKalb coach Ernie Pinne said. “The sectional tournament is a little over a month away, and we appear to be reaching our potential at the right time.”
Pivonka leads Spartans: Sycamore beat Ottawa, 3,177-2,916, behind a 647 series from Dani Pivonka. Kayla Webb finished with a 568 for the Spartans, and Brittany Hearn added a 533.
Redskins top Knights: Morris beat Kaneland, 3,086-2,769. Morgan Wojeiechowski led Kaneland with a 525 series, and Amanda Strayve finished with a 490. Christie Crews had a 466.
