65th anniversary

Vernon “Red” and Gladys Prestegaard of DeKalb will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Dec. 26 at DeKalb County Nursing Home, 2600 North Annie Glidden Road, DeKalb. Cake and refreshments will be served and memories will be shared.

“Red” Prestegaard and Gladys Motz were married Dec. 26, 1947, at Congregational Church in Elburn.

Red is a retired rural mail carrier and Gladys is retired from Northern Illinois University. She worked as a cafeteria assistant.

The couple has one son, John Prestegaard of Sycamore, and one grandson, Chris Prestegaard.

65th anniversary

Roy and Marilyn Davis of DeKalb celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary with a family dinner on Dec. 11 at Sorrentos Ranch restaurant in Maple Park. The event was hosted by their family.

The couple were married on Dec. 19, 1947, at the Geneva Courthouse. He retired as foreman of Barber Greene Co. in 1989, and she operated at home day care, retiring in 1989.

They have two daughters, Diane Davis (deceased) (Joseph McGonigle of Stockton Springs, Maine), and Linda (Robert) Gahlbeck of DeKalb. They also have three grandchildren,Tracey (LeRoy) Geske of DeKalb, Amy (Daniel) Brunk of Cherry Valley and Jason (Kristen) Goff of DeKalb; and eight great-grandchildren, Kayley, Jacob and McKenzie Garland, Adrian and Evan Geske, and Kaitlyn, Brayden and Colleen Goff.


Dr. Charles and Eileen Lonsdorf of Lake Tomahawk, Wis., announce the engagement of their daughter, Jennifer McVay, to Philip Mark Hartman, son of Mark and Deb Hartman of DeKalb.

Jenny is a 2003 graduate of Lakeland Union High School. In 2007, Jenny received her bachelor’s degree in psychology and English, graduating from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. In 2009, she received her master’s degree in Behavior Analysis from Western Michigan University as well as becoming a licensed Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). Jenny worked at Autism Spectrum Therapies in San Diego as a program supervisor. She currently is an outreach consultant at Firefly Autism, located in the Denver-Boulder area of Colorado. 

Philip is a 2001 graduate of DeKalb High School. He earned his associate’s degree in graphic design, graduating in 2005 from College of DuPage. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in geology at Front Range Community College where he will transfer to the University of Colorado system following this spring semester. Philip has been employed by United Van Lines as a commercial Class A driver for the past six years.

The couple met while both living in San Diego. They are planning an early June, 2013, wedding in Lake Tomahawk, Wis., with the reception in St. Germain, Wis.

The couple will reside in the Denver-Boulder area of Colorado.

90th birthday

Thelma Miller of DeKalb will celebrate her 90th birthday with family at a local restaurant on Jan. 3, 2013.
