Bears sign Mare to replace injured Gould

A calf injury has ended Robbie Gould's season with the Bears.

On Tuesday, the Bears signed 16-year veteran Olindo Mare to replace Gould, who strained his left calf during pregame warmups against the Minnesota Vikings. Gould connected on two extra points Sunday but remained on the sidelines as punter Adam Podlesh handled kickoff duties.

Mare, 37, last played in 2011 for the Carolina Panthers. He has made 350 of 431 career field-goal attempts for an 81.2 percent accuracy rate.

The Bears also placed two special-teams contributors on injured reserve: Craig Steltz (chest) and Sherrick McManis (knee). Both players also were injured Sunday against the Vikings.

To replace Steltz and McManis, the Bears promoted wide receiver Joe Anderson from the practice squad to the 53-man roster and signed linebacker Jerry Franklin to the 53-man roster. The Bears also signed guard Chris Riley to the practice squad and released veteran offensive lineman Andre Gurode, who signed with the team late last month.

The Bears will return to practice Wednesday at Halas Hall.
