The DeKalb-Sycamore boys swimming co-op improved to 2-0 on the season with a 66-28 win over West Chicago.
Ryan Schultz won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races for DeKalb-Sycamore, while Marc Dubrick took home the 200 IM and 100 butterfly titles. Daniel Hein won the 100 freestyle, while Dylan Powers took home the 100 backstroke and Michael Carlson won the 100 breaststroke.
DeKalb-Sycamore also took first in the 200 medley, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays.
"Overall, it was just a really exciting meet seeing just how fast they were able to go at this point in the season," DeKalb-Sycamore coach Leah Eames said.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Mosley leads T'wolves to L10 win: Samantha Mosley had 20 points and nine rebounds for Indian Creek in a 59-39 win over Hiawatha. Josie Diehl added 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Timberwolves (3-6, 1-2 Little Ten Conference).
"I thought this was the best execution we've had offensively. I thought the girls did a real nice job," Indian Creek coach Paul Muchmore said. "I thought Josie and Samantha did exceptionally well in the post for us."
Ashley Tamraz led the Hawks (4-5, 1-1 LTC) with 22 points, with Savanna Campbell adding seven. All night, Hiawatha faced a serious size disadvantage.
"I could not have been more proud of our team the way we played," Hawks coach Franz Schumacher said. "We were literally outmatched size-wise, all five starters, for a good two inches to six inches."
Cogs lose BNC East game: For Genoa-Kingston, execution was a major problem Thursday.
The Cogs seemed to handle the Marengo press well, but once they tried their offensive sets, everything seemed to fall apart.
The Cogs made only four field goals in losing to Marengo, 38-11.
“We need to decide to become more mentally tough and take care of the basketball,” G-K coach Kyle Henkel said. “The things that went wrong are things we can change.”
The Cogs (2-7, 0-3 BNC East) had more turnovers than shot attempts in the first quarter, 10 to 8, and the mistakes continued to pile up throughout the game.
Marengo had trouble executing at times, as well, but benefited from a 15-2 run to start the game, when the Cogs scored their first field goal at the 2:24 mark of the second quarter.
Alanna Carroll led the Cogs with four points.
Royals fall: Byron beat Hinckley-Big Rock, 60-35. Jacqueline Madden led the Royals (4-4) with 13 points. Lauren Paver added six, and Abbie Tosch finished with five.
Humes leads Bobcats in loss: Allison Humes scored nine points and added five rebounds for Somonauk against Newark, but the Bobcats (4-5, 1-2 LTC) lost, 58-32.
BOYS BOWLING
Spartans top Barbs: Alex Burchard had a 698 series for Sycamore, leading the Spartans to a 3,810-3,424 win over DeKalb. Kyle Bonnell had a 673 for Sycamore.
"It was a big win for us tonight, big confidence boost for our team," Sycamore coach Aaron Williams said. "Our team is starting to gel together and hopefully they can continue bowling well."
Sean Mattingly had a 621 for DeKalb, while Will Todtz finished with a 608.
GIRLS BOWLING
Sycamore gets win over DeKalb: Kayla Webb had a 654 series for Sycamore in a 3,263-3,096 win over DeKalb. Dani Pivonka had a 538 for the Spartans, and Lindsey Yunker had a 507.
Maddy Jouris had a 642 series for the Barbs, and Kodilee Underwood had a series of 572. Jessica Eberly added a 561.
"Sycamore had a hot hand today – averaging a 181 per bowler to our 172, which is the difference of one missed spare per game," DeKalb coach Bill Holland. "Both teams had some really strong games with a lot of strikes, but we also had too missed spares."
