Indoor farmers market to be held Saturday

The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of DeKalb, 158 N. Fourth St. in DeKalb, will host a winter farmers market with arts and crafts from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

More than 25 vendors, some joining the market for the first time, will sell such items as grass-fed beef, free-range chickens and eggs, locally produced honey and elderberry jelly, homespun yarn, fresh-baked French pastries, handmade jewelry, knitted items, birdhouses, suncatchers, goat-milk soap, weaving tools and wood carvings. There also will be a used book sale with a wide variety of books.

Contributing to the market’s festive atmosphere will be live music all day and hot food available for purchase.

“The market is an enjoyable community event that supports our local farmers and artists,” organizer Dan Kenney said in a news release. “It is part of our goal of building a more sustainable community. Research shows that of every $100 spent at locally owned businesses, $68 stays in the community, as opposed to only $43 staying in the community when purchases are made at non-locally owned businesses.

“This has become a very popular event drawing hundreds of people to each market. We hope people who have not been here before give it a try.”

Admission costs $1. For more information, call 815-793-0950.
