Mother hopes grand jury will clear son’s name

CHICAGO – The mother of a man who died after a fight with a nephew of former Chicago Mayor Richard Daley said she hopes a grand jury’s indictment of the nephew begins to clear her son’s name.

Nanci Koschman is the mother of David Koschman, who died in 2004 after he was punched by Daley; nephew, Richard Vanecko. She said she doesn’t want to see Vanecko go to jail. She said she just wants people to know the fight wasn’t her son’s fault.

Koschman spoke Monday after the indictment of Vanecko for involuntary manslaughter in Koschman’s death after a fight outside a Chicago bar.
