Kishwaukee College registration for spring 2013 is in progress, offering a wide range of classes for every interest. Among electives, the humanities offerings for spring 2013 include some courses that explore the breadth of the human experience.
English 286 Literature and Film with instructor Nate Gordon will examine short stories, plays and novels/novellas that have made the transition from the printed page to the big screen, some more than once. Gordon also wil look at a variety of adaptations of single works, for example, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” as a cartoon and as a live-action feature. The class meets from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Another class offering a look at film is Humanities 215 Black Cinema with instructor Nadine Franklin. The class focuses on black cinema and filmmakers of the 20th century and will cover not only depictions of black culture, but how films have both mirrored and affected society’s views of race at various points in history. The class meets from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
