PREP ROUNDUP: G-K basketball holds off Stillman Valley, improves to 4-1

Genoa-Kingston boys basketball team almost let an 18-point halftime lead slip away, but the Cogs held on for a 55-49 victory over Stillman Valley on the road.

Adam Price led the Cogs with 23 points while freshman Tommy Lucca added 15 in the victory.

"We played pretty solid defensively in that first half," G-K coach Cory Jenkins said. "They clawed to get back in it the second half."

G-K (4-1) goes on the road to Woodstock North on Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

T'wolves fall to Somonauk: Indian Creek fell to Somonauk, 40-29, in the Timberwolves' first Little Ten Conference game of the season.

Ariel Russell had 10 points while freshman Josie Diehl had nine points and 15 rebounds. Kate Thuestad recorded four points and 12 rebounds in Indian Creek's (2-4, 0-1 Little Ten) loss.

"We were down 14 at halftime, cut it to a three-point lead and then credit to Somonauk...they made their free throws," Indian Creek coach Paul Muchmore said. "I was proud of the girls they came back."

Allison Humes had 11 points and eight rebounds while Ashlee Kewall scored eight points for Somonauk (4-3, 1-0).

GIRLS BOWLING

Dixon defeats Knights: Dixon defeated Kaneland, 3086-2637, on Thursday.

Morgan Wojciechowski led the Knights with a 520 series, including a 205 single-game score. Christie Crews bowled a 513 series and Elissa Eckert recorded a 438 series over the three games.

Sycamore falls to Morris: The Spartans lost to Morris, 2,848-2,599, on Thursday.

The Spartans were led by senior co-captain Danielle Pivonka, who recorded a 558 series over the three games.
