Fire destroys second floor of Genoa home

GENOA  – Fire destroyed the second floor of a two-story home in Genoa early Friday, but the family escaped without injury.

DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Genoa firefighters and police responded to a fire at 16625 Route 72 around 4:45 a.m. Friday after a passer-by reported flames coming from the roof of the home. Sheriff Roger Scott said the fire started in the attic, likely from an electrical source or furnace, and was not believed to be suspicious.

The fire required the assistance of Sycamore, DeKalb, Hampshire, Boone, Cherry Valley and Pingree Grove fire departments.
