Letter: Thanks to Campbell for his service as state’s attorney
To the Editor:
As the result of the recent close election, the DeKalb County State’s Attorney’s Office is transitioning to a new person. On behalf of all of us who have followed the office with interest, I want to publicly thank Clay Campbell and his bright young staff for the arduous, conscientious and successful work they have done on behalf of the citizens of our county.
As State’s Attorney Campbell personally said at his election evening reception, where he graciously thanked his dedicated staff and supporters for their hard work, he considered it a privilege to serve the citizens of DeKalb County.
For all of us who lived through the horror of the María Ridulph kidnapping and murder, it is us who need to thank Campbell and his staff for their unrelenting dedication in bringing closure to the Ridulph family and the entire community.
The facts and information surrounding the case were not taken up by previous state’s attorneys. We are very grateful Campbell had the courage to make the right decision. It is this courage and independence that served us so well in the Ridulph case and many other successfully prosecuted major felonies.
We wish the new state’s attorney well and hope on behalf of all of DeKalb County that he can follow Campbell’s example of hard work, independent of the political winds.
