Jacobson announces he'll run for DeKalb mayor
DeKALB – A 28-year-old DeKalb alderman announced his candidacy for DeKalb mayor, whom voters will choose in April 2013.
First Ward Alderman David Jacobson will run against John Rey, a retired Ag/Monsanto employee, Mike Verbic, a member of the DeKalb School District 428 Board, and Jennifer Groce, the former executive director of Re:New DeKalb.
In a news release posted on DeKalb County Online, Jacobson said that, with Northern Illinois University President John Peters stepping down in June, the city can "take the lead, and forge the type of relationship that will allow our communiversity to mutually prosper."
