County clerk adds Saturday hours
SYCAMORE – Starting Saturday, you can apply for a marriage license or register to vote at the DeKalb County Clerk’s office from 9 a.m. to noon.
County Clerk John Acardo will offer his office’s most popular services from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays in December and adjust the hours, if necessary, based on public response in January. The office had been open on weekdays only, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
“This is a trial run,” Acardo said. “Those are the heavy services we have during the week. We’re opening it up with those specific services.”
Services offered Saturdays are: requests for vital records related to birth, death, marriage and civil unions; tax redemptions; notary services; passports; and voter registration.
The expanded hours won’t increase the clerk’s office budget because Acardo hired two part-time employees to replace a full-time employee and left another full-time position vacant after that employee left. The adjustments led to an overall savings of $70,000 for the county for the coming fiscal year, which starts Jan. 1, Acardo said.
“While we’re saving the county money, we’re still providing the same level of services and expanding it on the weekend,” Acardo said.
The clerk’s office is in the second floor of the county building at 110 E. Sycamore St., Sycamore.
