53rd annual Carols and Candles to be celebrated

First Congregational United Church of Christ, 615 N. First St., DeKalb, will present its 53rd annual Carols and Candles service at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9. The community is invited.

This traditional worship service of lessons and carols features the Chancel Choir, directed by Rob Campbell, with organist Travis Erikson. The service includes scripture readings about the prophesy and birth of Christ, anthems sung by the Chancel Choir, a brass quartet, and congregational singing of traditional carols.

The service also will include the lighting of individual candles and the singing of “Silent Night,” a tradition since 1959. All are welcome to stay for the church’s annual Christmas Tea Reception, which will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
