Prep roundup: DeKalb girls get close win over Redwings

The DeKalb girls basketball team got a close win over Benet Tuesday night, defeating the Redwings, 42-41.

Brittney Patrick led the Barbs with 12 points, while Madelyne Johnson had 11 and Rachel Torres finished with 10. Janay Wright had five points for DeKalb.

The Barbs are now 6-0.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hawks fall: Savanna Campbell led Hiawatha with 12 points, but the Hawks lost 38-36 to Ashton-Franklin Center.

Ashley Tamraz had nine points for Hiawatha, who is now 2-4.

"All in all, it was a good hard-fought game," Hiawatha coach Franz Schumacher said. "We had a lot of opportunities to put them away and we just let them back in the game."

GIRLS BOWLING
Knights fall: Sterling defeated Kaneland, 3,267-2,795. Christie Crews led the Knights with a 537, while Amanda Strayve had a 513. Angela Charhut finished with a 494 for Kaneland.

BOYS BOWLING
Belluzzi leads Barbs in loss: Michael Belluzzi had a 612 series for DeKalb in a 3,565-3,477 loss to Rochelle at Mardi Gras Lanes. Will Todtz and Sean Mattingly each had 611 series’ for the Barbs.
