Cubs sign RHP Feldman to a one-year deal

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

The Cubs added another arm to the rotation today, signing right-handed pitcher Scott Feldman to a one-year contract.

Feldman, 29, spent the last eight years with the Texas Rangers. He went 6-11 with a 5.09 ERA in 2012 in 29 outings (21 starts). During his career with Texas, Feldman posted a 39-44 record with a 4.81 ERA in 204 appearances, 101 as a starter. General manager Jed Hoyer said Feldman will be used as a starter and not in the bullpen.

Feldman, who is 6-foot-7, produced his best season in 2009 when he went 17-8 with a 4.08 ERA in 34 appearances (career-high 31 starts).

The Cubs must open a spot on the 40-man roster for Feldman, which is expected to happen later today.
