Celebrate the Season in Genoa

The Genoa Area Chamber of Commerce invites you to “Celebrate the Season” from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7 in downtown Genoa.

Celebrate The Season will offer many holiday activities, including $1 carriage rides, a live nativity, a live petting zoo and warming fires at the downtown parking lot. Face painting will be held at American Family Insurance, letters to Santa at Beth Fowler School of Dance provided by Resource Bank, storytelling by Mrs. Claus, create your own reindeer food and receive free popcorn at Heartland Bank (formerly Citizens First National Bank). The event also will include Christmas caroling, music, charity booths, ice skating, vendors with free hot chocolate, cookies, coffee and much more. Look for the schedule of events poster at local merchants and newspapers.

The Jingle Bell Parade will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature Santa and Mrs. Claus coming to town with our very own G-K Fire Department. After the parade, join us for the lighting of the community Christmas tree next to Heartland Bank. Mayor Todd Walker will welcome visitors and, with the help of Santa, announce this year’s winners of the children’s coloring contest.

Children can write letters to Santa at Beth Fowler’s and visit Santa in his house in the lot next to the Genoa Library. Every child who visits Santa will receive a free candy cane and coloring book sponsored by NB&T.

The charming downtown shops will be open for all your gift-giving needs. The stores are decorated beautifully, which enhances the holiday spirit of the evening.

The chamber is holding a coat, hat and mitten drive through the end of the year. Items can be dropped off at Heartland Bank and KishHealth Family and Specialty Care on Pearson Drive.

This also will be the last evening to purchase 12 Days of Christmas Raffle tickets for a chance to win Chamber cash for that extra holiday shopping. Participants can win $100, $250, $500 or up to $1,750 in Chamber cash. Purchase tickets at MCR Framing, Speciality Gifts, Embroidery Sew Into It, NB&T, Resource Bank, Tobinson’s Ace Hardware, The Corner Cobbler and Heartland Bank. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold. Winners will be re-entered for a chance to win in each remaining day’s drawing.

The Genoa Area Chamber of Commerce would like to thank this year’s sponsors of Celebrate The Season. Without their generosity this community event would not be possible. Thank you to KishHealth System, NB&T, DeKalb County Veterans Assistance Commission, James Mechanical, Resource Bank, Prairie State Winery, The Corner Cobbler, Walnut Street Daycare Center, Heartland Bank, Seyller’s Inc., Tobinsons’s Ace Hardware, Genoa Park District & Fitness Center, City of Genoa Public Works Department, Custom Aluminum and Ron Anderson.
