Our View: The Thanksgiving holiday encourages us all

The Thanksgiving holiday encourages us all to reflect upon the things in our lives for which we are thankful.

We asked the more than 4,100 people who “like” the Daily Chronicle’s Facebook page about what they are thankful for this year, and received some excellent responses. Here they are, with minor editing:

I’m thankful for my best friend and love of my life. Every day with her is a new adventure and a wonderful blessing. – Mark Dorsett, Sycamore

I am thankful for everything that the Lord gives me each day, but especially my best friend and wife, Yvonne “Trevino” Holler. – Bryan L. Holler, DeKalb

I’m thankful having my children back. I fought almost two years to get custody of them. It came true on June 25 this year. I’m thankful to see their smiling faces every day. Being a single parent is tough, but thankful that they know daddy loves them so much. – Jose Sifuentes, DeKalb

I am truly thankful for the community of Sycamore. We have never had better friends or more blessings than we have found right here! – Jayne Wiese Higgins, Sycamore

I am thankful for being a single mother of six kids. Our road is not a easy one. I work and go to school. We stay at a safe haven. At times I cry myself to sleep. This was not the life I envisioned for me and my kids. When I feel like when I want to give up, 6 of the voices pop in my head. So I am most thankful for my children who keep me going everyday. I love you so very much. Thank you for being my inspiration and my everything. – Antoinette Jones, DeKalb

I recently lost my cousin, whom I was close to. For a while I was angry and bitter about it. Then I realized how thankful I was for the time that I got to spend with her, and I stopped being so angry that she was gone. I am thankful that she no longer hurts and that I got to love such an amazing person. She will forever be missed but she will always be in my heart. – Alicia Gehrke, Kirkland

I am thankful for all my fellow brothers and sisters in arms who help defend this nation and keep us free around the world. And to my family for supporting me the past 14 years I have defended freedom. – Kenneth Hadley, Sycamore.

I am thankful for my two boys, Antonio and Alex, both special little boys with special needs. They remind me every day what love really feels like. Also for my oldest daughter Bianca and husband Sterling who those two little boys adore more than anyone. – Becky Hernandez-Isby, DeKalb

I am thankful for my family and my job and everyone else who has helped me through my journey of life. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t know where I would be today. – Amber Rogers, Sycamore

I’m thankful for working at a business that is closed on Thanksgiving so I can spend it with my new husband and my family. – Kristin Maldonado, DeKalb

Thankful to move back home and be able to start anew and raise my two kids where life offers more ... Sycamore. – Tara Culotta, Sycamore

We are very thankful for our dedicated and compassionate team of employees, physicians and volunteers who work hard every day to care for the health of our community. – Kishwaukee Community Hospital

I am thankful for many things, but truly I am thankful that I learned to be thankful. – Lizzy Diane, Sycamore

I am thankful for all my family, Friends, and that we are all in good health. – Laurie Willis, Clare

I am thankful everyday to be alive, thank you Lord. Thankful for my husband and my two boys, one in the Navy for another four years. I am thankful that the Daily Chronicle gives us news and information about our county. Everyone have a safe and happy Thanksgiving. : ) – Emjohn Hayes, Sycamore

My family, home, and my husband’s job that provides for us to have these things. – Jessica Myroth-Erlandson, DeKalb
