SUMC choral celebration raises money for charity
Nearly 100 volunteers give of their gifts and talents to present the annual Christmas Choral Celebration at Sycamore United Methodist Church. This year’s production, “One Child,” begins at 6 p.m. Dec. 1 and 2 and features the Adult Choir, Junior and Youth Choir, and many small groups, instrumentalists and soloists.
The music highlights a wide variety of styles, ranging from Vivaldi’s “Gloria” to Mariah Carey’s “One Child,” and ends with a rousing gospel version of “This Little Light of Mine.” The songs are often enhanced with PowerPoint presentations, dancers or instruments such as flute, violin, cello and oboe. Craig Fritz is the 40-voice Adult Choir accompanist. Some of the small groups include the popular Good News! Men’s Quartet, directed by Doug Elder; Marcia and Paul Watson in harmony with Phyllis Horst; and men’s and women’s trios.
Carols and congregational singing are an important part of the program as well.
