PREP ROUNDUP: G-K boys hoops wins thriller

Genoa-Kingston won a high-scoring affair in its season opener, defeating Rockford Christian Life, 85-80, in overtime in the Oregon tournament. Freshman Tommy Lucca had 38 points in his varsity debut and Adam Price had 22 for the Cogs. Lucca hit a jumper with five seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime.

“We jumped on them really early in the game and let them come back a bit,” G-K coach Cory Jenkins said. “The team showed some character in the second half.”

Indian Creek takes opener: The Timberwolves defeated Luther North, 51-34, in the Westminster Christian tournament to win their season opener. Garrison Govig led the team with 20 points.
H-BR downs St. Anne:
The Royals overcame 23 turnovers to win their opener, 61-52, over St. Anne in the Seneca Tournament. Bernie Conley had 14 points to lead the Royals. Zach Michels recorded 13 points and Jared Madden had 11 for the Royals.

Sycamore improves to 2-1:
The Spartans defeated CICS-Ellison, 50-35, in the Burlington Central tournament. Sycamore was led by Bailey Gilbert’s 18 points while Bailey Foresman, Lauren Goff and Jessica Mollman each scotrf eight.

DeKalb dominates Minooka: Rachel Torres scored 20 points and Madelyne Johnson had 13 points and nine rebounds in DeKalb’s 46-24 win over Minooka in the Waubonsie Valley tournament.

Hiawatha cruises past Mooseheart: The Hawks (2-2) defeated Mooseheart, 51-14. Dani Clark led all scorers with 20 points despite sitting most of the second half.


Sycamore splits in Burlington tournament: The Spartans opened their season with a 1-1 record on the first day of the Burlington Central tournament. Sycamore defeated Larkin, 59-16, as Paige Wogen led the way with 17 points and Bailey Foresman chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds.

Sycamore lost to host Burlington, 42-40, in overtime. Sophomore Bailey Gilbert led Sycamore with 17 points while Wogen contributed eight.
