Prep roundup: DeKalb's Keck finishes 33rd in state swim meet

DeKalb freshman Jensen Keck finished 33rd in the 100-meter breaststroke at the IHSA State Meet at Evanston High School. Keck had a time 1:07.64, and was the third-fastest freshman in the event, but failed to qualify for the finals or consolation finals.

Girls Basketball

T’Wolves top Cougars: Indian Creek beat Plainfield South, 58-46, at the Hoops Happenings Tournament in Aurora.

Ariel Russell led the Timberwolves (1-1) with 23 points. Samantha Mosley had 13 points for Indian Creek, with Kate Thuestad adding seven points, eight rebounds and 10 assists.

“I thought Ariel had a great game. Big second quarter, huge fourth quarter,” Timberwolves coach Paul Muchmore said. “She made the basket that kind of sealed the victory for us.”

Hiawatha gets win: Hiawatha beat Elgin Academy, 38-14, at the Elgin Tournament. Dani Clark had 18 points for the Hawks, and Savanna Campbell added eight.

“Much better effort,” Hiawatha coach Franz Schumacher said. “They stepped up their game and their defense was much better than Game 1.”

The Hawks are now 1-1, and will play for fifth place against Willows Academy today.

Cogs fall in Harvard: Rockford East beat Genoa-Kingston, 35-33, at the Harvard Tournament. Andrea Strohmaier and Katie Thurlby each had 10 points for the Cogs (1-1).
