Prep roundup: Hiawatha girls hoops fall in season opener
Hiawatha’s girls basketball lost a heart-breaker in its season-opening game against Woodlands Academy on Thursday.
The Hawks took the lead on a free throw by Ashley Tamraz with 37 seconds remaining, but Woodlands scored on the following possession and came away with a 38-37 win.
“We had a slow start and we were playing a catch-up game,” Hiawatha coach Franz Schumacher said. “It was an exciting game, we just took too long to get going.”
