DeKalb man charged with aggravated sexual abuse

DeKALB – A judge set bond for a DeKalb man accused of statutory rape at $100,000 Tuesday.

Ventura Hernandez-Cruz, 22, of the 1100 block of Pleasant Street in DeKalb, faces two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, both Class 2 felonies typically punishable by three to seven years in prison. Charging documents allege he raped with a girl between 13 and 17 years old, who was at least five years younger than him.

DeKalb police Sgt. Bob Redel said Hernandez-Cruz is not accused of forcing the girl, but the juvenile could not legally consent.
