DeKalb girls basketball opened its season with a 39-27 win over Harlem on Tuesday at home.
Rachel Torres scored 15 points on 7 of 13 shooting to lead the Barbs (1-0)s. Courtney Bemis chipped in with eight pionts while Madelyne Johnson had four points, two steals and five rebounds.
Somonauk falls on road: Wheaton Academy edged Somonauk girls basketball, 41-37, on Tuesday.
Somonauk (0-2) was led by Emily Clark, who recorded 12 points and seven steals. Ashlee Kewall had 10 points , four assists and seven steals in the losing effort.
Somonauk plays host to Elgin-Westminster on Thursday at 5;30 p.m.
Indian Creek edged in opener: The Timberwolves lost their season opener to Aurora Christian, 50-43, on Tuesday. Ariel Russell led Indian Creek (0-1) with 11 points, including three three-pointers. Kate Thuestad had four points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists while Samantha Mosley had eight points for the Timberwolves.
"I thought we played well for the first game of the season," Indian Creek coach Paul Muchmore said. "We have quite a few underclassmen...so I thought we did a nice job."
DeKalb boys bowling falls to Dixon
DeKalb boys bowling went 1-2 and lost the series, 3,979 to 3,418, to Dixon on Tuesday.
The Barbs were led by Michael Belluzzi, who recorded a 610 three-game series and a high single-game score of 236. Gabe Olalde had the Barbs’ best single-game score with a 243 while Sean Mattingly bowled a 236, Will Todtz had a 225 and Seth Pinne recorded a 215.
DeKalb plays at Streator today.
