Mathew Tembo to play at Victory Baptist

Mathew Tembo, an award-winning Afropop and Reggae musician from Zambia in central southern Africa, will perform at Victory Baptist Church on Sunday during the 10:45 a.m. worship service. Tembo tries to spread the message of love, peace and togetherness.

He taught himself traditional Zambian instruments such as the silimba (Zambian marimba), kalimba (mbira/thumb piano), and kalumbu (one-stringed instrument) and incorporated them into his music. His music uses syncopation and call-and-response, typical characteristics of Zambian traditional music. Tembo is an ambassador of Zambian music both at home and abroad.

While he is still regarded as one of the best reggae musicians in Zambia, Tembo also is an award-winning Afropop performer. He is as authentic in reggae as he is in African music.
