Letter: Change is not needed at NIU Police Department

To the Editor:

The morals and ethics of the Northern Illinois University Police Department have been called into question. We, the NAACP chapter here at NIU, do not believe that the department acts in any unjust and unlawful ways, but rather upholds its duties to protect and serve this campus. We believe that making changes to our hardworking police department is unneeded and would result in affecting the way the department already thrives.

The NIU Police Department is one that is substantial, outstanding and vital to our campus. Our police department continuously demonstrates its dedication to keeping this campus safe and strong. It is not uncommon to find one of our officers going above and beyond to ensure the safety of our campus. From roommate conflicts to instances of theft, NIU police are always there helping and solving matters that would otherwise escalate without their intervention.
