Dana’s Day Spa offers individual attention
DeKALB – When a customer walks into Dana’s Day Spa, they just see Dana Baars. No one else.
Baars, the owner and sole employee of her day spa, said her clients have come to enjoy the privacy offered by one person.
Because it’s a one-woman operation, Baars said a number of her clients have some kind of illness or disease that prevents them from wanting to go out in public to a regular day spa. She said she regularly works with organizations such as Pay-It-Forward House and the people they serve.
“The clients appreciate the value that it’s one-on-one,” Baars said. “People like that privacy.”
And it’s because of that privacy that Baars said she will not hire an assistant or other staff to run her spa, which has no set hours of operation, sessions are by appointment-only.
Baars offers a variety of services, including manicures, pedicures, massages, waxing and facials. In addition to being a licensed esthetician, nail technician and massage therapist, she also has a certificate in body sugaring.
Baars was previously located on Sacramento Street in downtown Sycamore before moving to her current location of 203 E. Locust St. in downtown DeKalb.
“I wanted to service my clients and I wanted to offer classes as well,” Baars said of her new 1,100-square-foot facility. “And I needed more space.”
Baars said the new location has received a warm reception from her clients, including the ones who live in Sycamore, because they value the privacy and personalization that comes with it.
“They get to turn the entire spa into their own spa,” Baars said
The interior of Baars’ new spa is outfitted with everything tropical, ranging from pictures of warmer climates to two, small, functioning waterfalls. Baars said her clients have told her that the spa reminds them of destination resort spas.
“They really like the tropical feel, especially now with winter coming up,” Baars said.
