Letter: Sadness at loss
of Browns’ in Genoa

Published: Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 5:30 a.m. CST

To the Editor:

Today in Genoa we are filled with happiness and pride in selecting a new government, and filled with sadness and loss as Browns’ County Market closed the doors at its Genoa location.

Some might think it is sad to lose a large taxpayer and the paychecks that won’t be taxed or spent in our small city. Others are upset at losing a convenient place to shop.

I am very sad at losing a good friend.

From its beginning, Browns’ has been a bright, clean and friendly place to shop. The team of employees there has always been hardworking, warm and personable. I will miss the friendly waves and smiles that I received almost daily when I found an excuse to walk across the street to pick up a newspaper, a snack or my lunch.

I will miss being able to call my wife at the end of the day to ask her what we need at the store. We will miss being able to do Cub Scout fundraising there. I am very sorry for the 21 people in our community who have lost their jobs. Browns’ has been a good neighbor and a good citizen to all, and they and especially their employees will be missed.
