2012 Renaissance Scholarship awarded

Published: Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012 10:07 a.m. CDT

Traci Gardner is the recipient of the 2012 Renaissance Scholarship.

The scholarship is supported through an endowment fund at the DeKalb County Community Foundation started by Yvonne Johnson, a local educator who noticed the need for scholarship assistance for those presently working who want to begin, or return to school for a college degree.

The $1,000 renewable scholarship is awarded each summer to an eligible DeKalb County applicant. This year’s scholarship will help Gardner achieve her goal to pursue a career in nursing to work with emergent, trauma, cardiac and critical clients.

“Traci embodies the spirit of the scholarship” Anita Zurbrugg, DeKalb County Community Foundation program director, said in a news release. “Traci is active in public and civic affairs and is committed to furthering her education. The foundation is proud to be a partner in community philanthropy that supports education through scholarships in DeKalb County.”

Individuals who are interested in starting a scholarship fund at the DeKalb County Community Foundation should contact Dan Templin, executive director at 815-748-5383.
