Letter: I understand role of regional superintendent of education

To the Editor:

My name is Derek Avery. I am the Republican candidate for regional superintendent of schools. I currently serve as regional superintendent, having been appointed July 1 by the DeKalb County Board to replace Gil Morrison upon his retirement after holding the position for nine years.

Prior to being appointed, I served as Morrison’s assistant regional superintendent for a year. Before coming to the Regional Office of Education, I taught math and coached baseball and football at Sandwich High School for 15 years.
