Letter: Hopeful has safety concerns

To the Editor:

I am running as a candidate for DeKalb County Board in District 5, in part because of my continued concern about our neighborhood safety. Crime is on the rise in this county. Just last year a student was slain in an apartment building in the heart of District 5. More recently an assault was reported in the area. There are many areas in the district and county that have become hot spots for criminal activities. This often takes place in surroundings where family, children and loved ones live.

One of the primary responsibilities of government is the protection of its citizens from harm. I support the county justice system and law enforcement agencies. I will continue to support the ongoing work of our state’s attorney, sheriff and judges to help keep our communities safe.
