Letter: Amendment another case of bad lawmaking
To the Editor:
On the ballot Tuesday is House Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment (HJRCA) 49, a referendum to change the state constitution. I have read the proposed amendment as it is written on the ballot. It deliberately doesn’t make sense. It is an effort by the Legislature to make us believe that a “Yes” vote will address pension reform and state budget problems.
Groups on both sides of the issue acknowledge that because it is poorly written, the courts will have to figure it out. Again, more money spent because legislators haven’t done their job. Again, they have let the state become the laughingstock of the nation because they consistently refuse to do their job. Folks in other states breathe a sigh of relief that they live somewhere else.
