St. Charles man charged with sex abuse

Published: Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012 5:30 a.m. CST

A St. Charles man is scheduled to appear in court Thursday on sexual abuse charges.

Jose L. Garcia, 27, of the 200 block of Walnut Street in St. Charles, was charged Wednesday with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Police said he sexually abused a mentally disabled girl younger than 17.

Gary Dumdie, chief deputy with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, said Garcia is an acquaintance of the victim’s family and was at a gathering at the family’s Cortland home Saturday night. The abuse occurred early Sunday morning.

Garcia was aware of the girl’s mental disability, Dumdie said, and the victim’s family notified police of the incident.

Garcia is being held at the DeKalb County Jail pending bond.
